HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION
HEALTH -- Grade 9 -- .50 unit of credit
Course Objectives:
Instruction covers personality, emotional and mental health, control of the body, and the body in action. Additional units in human sexuality and CPR, first aid and safety are covered as well as a basic background in health to promote healthful living. Health is required of all freshmen. Completes the State of Ohio’s requirement in health education for graduation.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION 1 -- Grade 9 -- .25 unit of credit
Course Objectives:
Physical Education is a part of the total educational process specifically dealing with the physical development of the individual. This courses strongly emphasizes physical fitness, creative movement, the development of fundamental motor skills, and participation in individual and team time activities. Participation and dress are required. Physical Education 1 is required of all freshmen and for graduation.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION 2 -- Grade 10 -- .25 unit of credit
Course Objectives:
Physical Education 2 is a continuation of Physical Education I. This course seeks to further the skills, knowledge and fitness levels attained in Physical Education I. Participation and dress are required. Physical Education 2 is required of all sophomores and for graduation.
HEALTH & TRAINING -- Grades 11, 12 -- .50 unit of credit
Course Objectives:
This elective course will explore specific topics in more detail than our required health course. Drugs and alcohol, steroids, eating disorders, nutritional habits and training programs may be discussed. Both classroom study and physical activity will be used to reinforce topic comprehension.
LIFETIME SPORTS -- Grades 11,12 -- .50 unit of credit
Course Objectives:
This course engages students in sporting activities that are readily pursued in adult life. It intends to promote fitness and healthy perspectives of competition. Outside resources and facilities may be utilized, thus some field trips may be taken. Successful completion of HPE 002 and HPE 003 required.
