MUSIC
BAND -- Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 -- 1 unit of credit
Course Objectives:
Band includes woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments. This course provides students the opportunity to develop musical skill and knowledge through the performance medium of parades, concerts, contests, and athletic events. Participation is determined by the director through musical proficiency and need of instrumentation. Prior musical training is desired. Those without any musical training must contact the director before being accepted into band. Band is an opportunity to enjoy music and provide foundation which may lead to a career in music.
Note: extra curricular activities include Pep Band, Jazz Band, and small ensembles.
CONCERT CHOIR -- Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 -- 1 unit of credit
Course Objectives:
Concert Choir is composed of soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices. This course offers a study of vocal singing, including the areas of sight singing, vowel formation, phrasing, correct breathing, pure choral blend and stylized solo singing. Students will develop the skills necessary to read, understand and perform vocal music independent of instrumental aid.
Repertoire includes the use of languages, a cappella pieces and music containing a variety of harmonic texture, as well as music variety. Placement in choir is based on the desire to sing in choir and behavior. The director reserves the right to remove a student at semester.
LADIES CHORALE -- Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 -- 1 unit of credit
Course Objectives:
The Ladies’ Chorale is comprised of high school ladies. This group provides vocal music experience and necessary training for entering concert choir and symphonic choir. The emphasis is on development of vocal maturity through auditory awareness, vocal exercises and a varied repertoire. Ladies’ Choral performs public concerts throughout the year. Placement in Ladies’ Chorale is determined by the director.

SHOW CHOIR -- Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 -- 1 unit of credit
Course Objectives:
This course is an advanced study and performance of vocal music as well as dance movement. The group performs at various concerts consisting of after school time. This group also serves as a chamber ensemble for Solo & Ensemble Contest. Audition is required, and all decisions will be made by the director. Students may take this course with or without enrollment in other music courses, however it is recommended that the student participate in another choir.

SYMPHONIC CHOIR -- Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 -- 1 unit of credit

This course offers a comprehensive study of vocal singing, including the areas of sight singing, vowel formation, phrasing, correct breathing, pure choral blend, and stylized solo singing. Students will develop the skills necessary to read, understand and perform vocal music independent of instrumental aid.
Advanced repertoire includes the use of languages, a cappella pieces, and music contacting a variety of harmonic texture. Placement in choir is based on vocal auditions, knowledge of material, and the need for voices. All decisions will be made by the director.
ORCHESTRA -- Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 -- 1 unit of credit
Course Objectives:
The orchestra program offers musicians an opportunity to perform at upper-intermediate and advanced levels on strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. Public and formal concerts are a required part of the regular program. Available to those students demonstrating skill on their instruments are: District Festival Orchestra, Regional Orchestra, State Orchestra, as well as honors orchestras at selected Ohio colleges. Participation in solo and ensemble contest is highly encouraged for all string players, either as solo participant, or part of an ensemble or group. From within the orchestra, a performing ensemble, usually a string quartet, will be chosen to perform frequently both at school functions and in public.
Students must have control of the basic fundamentals of their selected instrument and be advanced enough to perform literature on the high school level. Orchestra is an opportunity to enjoy music through participation. It provides as much exposure as possible to hear and observe other orchestras and forms a broader exposure to the realm of music. A foundation is provided which may lead to a career in music. Woodwind, Brass and Percussion students must contact instructor prior to registration.
