FINE ARTS
ART I -- Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 -- 1 unit of credit
Course Objectives:
Art I is a foundational course required before a student can take any other art class. Focusing on the art elements and principles of art, the class will emphasize studio, 2-D and 3-D: drawing and painting methods, perspective, design, lettering, color theory, cartooning, animation/claymation, hand-form clay methods, etc. There will be academic requirements similar to the traditional classroom such as assigned reading, reports, and written tests. There will be discussions along with both written and oral critiques.
There will be a fifteen dollar fee to be paid within the first four weeks of school. Field trips may incur extra fees to the student. Students will furnish some of their own supplies: markers, colored pencils, water colors, paint brushes, rubber cement, Elmer’s glue, glue stick, scissors, ruler, compass, protractor, eraser, Sharpie extra fine black marker, calligraphy pen and special materials which students might want for special projects. The grade is based on effort and progress, as well as grade averages of written work.
