* Each bus is equipped
with safety gear including a two-way radio for safety
* Drivers participate in annual in-service training programs.
* Emergency evacuation drills are conducted each year.
* Drawstrings, ties, straps, etc. should be shortened or removed from
clothing, backpacks and other items to lessen the likelihood of getting
caught on bus rails or doors.
After-school Loading:
All buses load students from the High School, Middle School and St.
Francis Xavier by blocking the drive between the High School and Middle
School. Once students board the bus they will not be permitted to get
off unless requested by a parent, in person, or permission is granted
by the Transportation Supervisor or the Central Office staff. If students
miss the bus they should return to their school to notify the Principal
or call parents.

Bus Disciplinary
Action:
School Board Policy, Ohio Administrative Code and Ohio law regulates
the transportation of students between home and school. It must also be
a shared responsibility between the parent and the school district. However,
school bus drivers operate in "loco parentis".
In other words, in the absence of parents, the school bus driver may require
students to follow their directions for the safety and welfare of the
student. Parents are asked to reinforce proper behavior and safety with
their children, not only at a bus stop but also while being transported
by the bus.
Misbehavior at a bus stop or while on board a bus, may result in students
being disciplined, including suspension or termination of transportation
privileges.
If you have a concern or a problem related to the bus, you are encouraged
to write a note to the bus driver and share your concern. A phone call
can also be made to the bus garage where a voice mail message may be left
for the bus driver. Many times these types of communication can eliminate
miscommunications. You may also call the Transportation Office (935-1642)
to discuss school bus related problems with the Transportation Director.
Parental assistance in discussing appropriate and safe school bus behavior
is appreciated. Unfortunately, failure to behave appropriately can result
in loss of bus transportation privileges. For significant or recurring
problems, disciplinary procedures will be as follows:
1ST OFFENSE -
Student is requested by driver to comply with the rules. Student and driver
discuss problem one time.
2ND OFFENSE - Driver provides to parents on disciplinary report
form misbehavior. Form must be signed by parent and returned to bus driver
the next day.
3RD OFFENSE - Driver reports misbehavior to principal and the principal
takes one of the following actions:
* Principal and student
discuss problem and develop a plan to correct the behavior
* Principal notifies parents of the problem and the possibilities of forfeiting
bus riding privilege.
* Student loses bus privileges for a specific number of days.
* Student forfeits bus privileges for remainder of the school year.
